The big question here is: how did you install Koha? (From a tarball, from Git or using the Debian packages?) Best regards, Magnus Enger libriotech.no
As I have the same question, should I open a new thread? My installation was installed using git -for all I can tell, as I got it ready-made- on Debian, and receives updates with no problem. If you don't know how to upgrade Koha you shouldn't be doing a Git install at all. If you are on Debian/Ubuntu a packages install is recommended [1], If you wan't/need to stick with your current install method (sources), please use the latest stable tarball releases to get up-to-date sources [2] (instead of Git which might contain stuff not ready for production yet, for instance translation files). Install instructions come with the sources, in the form of a INSTALL.<distribution> text file. Good luck! Dear Mr Cohen Arazi, Thank you very much for pointing out the best practices for a proper koha installation, you must realise though that this is not what I asked. I already have a koha git installation that works more or less fine, and frankly I’m not prepared to ruin it just in order to comply to some guideline, not when I know that what I’m asking is not only possible, but routinely performed by other such installations. My problem is that I have no idea on how to push my git installation up the release ladder. As I use koha in English, I haven’t encountered any problem with the translation files. Actually, the only problem I’ve had so far due to git updates that have passed QC is the one I described in http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=9962 . On the other hand, I look forward to take advantage of ameliorations to koha that only apply to later versions, like http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=9737 . I do recognize that a git installation is neither the best nor the simplest for persons such as I, you must consider though that it was obtained ready-made as a VM*, and that should there not be such an “koha appliance” available, I probably wouldn’t use koha at all today. As things are, I have still to understand most of it, but I’m progressing, and it simply works! Thank you again for your considerate suggestions. kind regards, Manos PETRIDIS *Many heartfelt thanks to Kyle Hall of ByWater Solutions/ Meadville Public Library/ Crawford County Federated Library System/ Mill Run Technology Solutions for providing the VM image. Manos, Thank you very much for pointing out the best practices for a proper koha
installation, you must realise though that this is not what I asked.
I interpreted your question in the same way Tomas did, as indicating that you were uncomfortable following the upgrade instructions that are included in the Koha source code. In that case, the best advice is definitely to put you on the path of an installation method that you'll be comfortable with. If that is not the case, and you were just asking whether there was anything *additional* you needed to know, the answer is no. You simply have to check out the version of the source code you want to run, and rerun the installer, as directed here: http://git.koha-community.org/gitweb/?p=koha.git;a=blob;f=INSTALL.debian;h=4... The one difference between those instructions and what you will do with a git installation, of course, is that if you are running Koha as a regular user you need not use sudo. When installing from sources (either tarball or git) there are three setup schemas: 'standard', 'single', and 'dev'. You need to first determine the one that's been used. If it is a 'dev' install you need to identify the source directory where the cloned git repository is.Once you are on that dir, you have all the git-related tools to pull the latest code. Stick to the latest stable branch (3.12.x this time) and not 'master'. Regards To+

Hello Mildred,
We have just upgraded to Koha 3.12
How can we download the offline mode and use it?
Do you mean the offline circulation tool? If so you have two options, either install the Firefox plugin or download a Windows utility. You can get more details at http://manual.koha-community.org/3.12/en/offlinecirc.html Cheers. Olugbenga Adara
Thanks Tomas for this inf. We have used one of the live CDs available on the web and installed Koha 3.12.03.000 on Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS. I do not know if someone else had done similar upgrades. let me try and see how it takes us thru this process of upgrade.
