Koha - searches in 3.2 require asterisk at end to be successful
After several attempts of reindexing our fresh install of Koha 3.2 and loading a test of 776 records and getting no results for searching in both the opac and staff clients, I tried adding one in the staff client manually. After viewing that record, I could click on one of the subject headings and get results. However, after closing that record and doing a new search in both the opac and staff clients, I still got nothing - even for the record I had created (and re-indexed). In desperation I added an asterisk at the end of my search. Turns out that all of the searches in both the opac and the staff clients require the asterisk. I would suggest going through the issues discussed in the Search FAQ first: http://koha-community.org/documentation/faq/searching/ If none of that works, come back here and let us know what sort of errors you are seeing in the logs and during reindexing. Kind Regards, Chris

Opps... just noticed that you have reindexed. So run rebuild_zebra.pl adding the -v switch and look for errors. Also check permissions on all zebra related dirs and files. They must be owned by your kohauser. Kind Regards, Chris
I had already run rebuild_zebra.pl <http://rebuild_zebra.pl> with the -v and didn't see anything but did it again, just to be sure. No errors. The /var/log/koha also wasn't helpful and the koha-zebradaemon.err and koha-zebradaemon-output.log were empty. Finally it occurred to me that I had turned off |QueryAutoTruncate |in the preferences because our staff and our researchers had requested that. (They hate getting irrelevant results) But turning it back on fixed the problem of needing the asterisk for every search term - but of course it means that I will probably get a lot of complaints. Chris, Turning it off seems to make the searches fail. We get no results with it turned off (for example, a search for the full words "Mississippi" or "papers" ) in our catalog gives no results, and it should give thousands. On 1:59 PM, Chris Cormack wrote:

Its a system preference you have turned on. Look in the searching system preferences you will see it right away.
