I have been hunting for a deal for airfare for KohaCon and with the help of Chris (who told me what he usually pays) I found an affordable deal on an excellent airline. Virgin Australian had (don't know if they still do) a promo running where it would cost about $450 on way to NZ: http://vaustralia.com/ Hope you all have good luck finding your flights! Mine is booked and I'm ready to go! Nicole
Thanks for that info, Nicole. It led me to a round-trip ticket priced at US$1050. Unfortunately, it's San Francisco to Los Angeles to Sydney to Auckland, and it takes 24 hours! I kept looking and found that I can fly Air New Zealand direct in 13 hours for an additional US$400; I may have to do that, as it's hard to imagine subjecting myself to a 24-hour trip. By the way, anyone flying from the US should be sure to consult http://kohacon.appspot.com/2010/travel/US.html. Cheers, Daniel Grobani Samuel Merritt University nengard wrote:

The trick with Virgin Australia is for getting to Wellington, avoiding Auckland completely. So for those not wanting to do the road trip, you can do LAX -> SYD -> Wellington. That way you clear customs and immigration in Wellington with much much shorter queues. If you want to go to AKL, then yep Air NZ is a better bet.

Hello all, I am gradually now seeing that i may be able to make Kohacon. I am in Ibadan, Nigeria and i think traveling with South African Airlines may be my best bet. Searches shows me the trip may take 34 hours - 48 hours with at least 3 different changes from Lagos to Wellington. Seems a bit frightening to be traveling for that long but that is the cheapest i"ve found so far. Does anyone have any tips. Will coming to NZ via UK a good alternative? Thanks. Hi Olugbenga It would be fantastic if you could make it. We have new employee from South Africa at work, I'll ask him for travel tips he has done the flight a few times. It is shaping up to be a fantastic conference and a true international affair with people coming from everywhere. If you wanted to speak the are about 2 spots still open. Hello Chris, Thanks. I would appreciate any tip I can get. I've actually also registered to speak at the conference. That is if our challenges and experience here in Nigeria with Koha will not bore all you gurus to death! :-) Olugbenga Adara Mobile: 234-803-3220288 --- On Wed, 6/9/10, Chris Cormack <chris@bigballofwax.co.nz> wrote: From: Chris Cormack <chris@bigballofwax.co.nz> Subject: Re: [Koha] Coming to NZ in October To: "Olugbenga Adara" <gbengaadara@yahoo.com> Cc: koha@lists.katipo.co.nz Date: Wednesday, June 9, 2010, 10:15 PM Hi Olugbenga It would be fantastic if you could make it. I think Joann has already given you some good advice, Eugene didn't have anything to add. And no your topic sounds great :) Chris
Hi there, My previous husband was from Nigeria and he found the trips quite long too. He used to fly Emirates from Lagos to Dubai then down to Auckland with a refuelling in Australia. Emirates were by far the cheapest and the trip was less than 24 hours from memory and comprised 1 very long flight (12 hrs?) which he slept through plus the short hops from Lagos-Dubai and Australia - Auckland (3-4 each?). If money is not a problem I think the quickest route was Lagos - Johannesburg - then across Australia to Auckland (stop off in Perth ?) but it was expensive at the time. I am so glad you are coming down :) Cheers Jo. Olugbenga Adara wrote:
