Koha - permission to do overdue.pl
All, Where is the permission to do overdue.pl? We need our circulation staff the ability to do that and I can't figure where it is. Linda, It's the "Circulation: Remaining Permissions" permission, at this time. -Ian On Tue, Aug 30, 2011 at 10:02 AM, Linda Culberson <lculber@mdah.state.ms.us>wrote:

What do you mean by 'do overdue.pl'? Overdues are sent automatically by Koha using the cron job - your circulation staff shouldn't have to touch anything related to that. Nicole On Tue, Aug 30, 2011 at 10:20 AM, Linda Culberson <lculber@mdah.state.ms.us> wrote:

Sorry all, I didn't explain myself very well. I meant that from the page in the staff client that is cgi-bin/koha/circ/circulation-home.pl, it is the link for "Overdues" that goes to overdue.pl Without the reports permissions, they get sent back to the login screen with the message: "Error: You do not have permission to access this page. Click to log out" Anyway, the permissions needed seem to be for reports - I think, though I'm not sure. Linda On 8/30/2011 9:38 AM, Nicole Engard wrote:

I'm curious, do you feel that this particular report should be available to circulation staff with "regular" circulation permissions, or is it ok that your circ staff has access to all of reports? If so, it might be a good idea to file a bug about that. I'm not sure I have an opinion about that, but maybe you do. :) Liz Rea lrea@nekls.org On Aug 30, 2011, at 10:09 AM, Linda Culberson wrote:

Liz, I actually do have an opinion because I do need the overdue report to be available to all circulation staff. But then we don't have the "Large number of overdues" that is would make it "resource intensive" as it states in the warning. And no, I'd rather the circulation staff not have access to all reports. I had done a php script that would be available to all, but the librarians really prefer the functionality to be within Koha. Thanks for asking! Linda On 8/30/2011 11:00 AM, Liz Rea wrote:

I agree with Linda, I think that all circ staff should be able to run the circ reports on the circulation page without reports permissions - otherwise why are those reports not with the other reports - why are they listed on the circulation page? Sorry to bring a mundane question to the list, but we're down to the wire with implementing and I need some advice. We are a small academic library with about 10 library assistants. We considered creating separate staff-type patron records for them so they could log in and we could track their transactions. Then it occurred to us that with a busy circ desk many people use the circulation station throughout the day and we don't want to be logging on and off. Is it common to create one staff patron account for circulation and log on with that for the whole day? Transactions have time stamps so we think that's enough for pinpointing problem transactions for follow-up with staff. Thanks, Hollis Hollis Near Director of Library Services Cornish College of the Arts 1000 Lenora Street Seattle, WA 98121 206-726-5040 206-315-5811 fax www.cornish.edu/library/
NEKLS does exactly this - we have 3 accounts for each of our 36 libraries, a circ (can do anything with borrowers, and circulate books), a tech (can do cataloging, reports and edit items as well as circ), and a director account (as close to a superuser as we'll allow, so everything but modifying systemwide preferences). This has worked well for us, and I believe it is easier to maintain than an account for every staff member. If you want to track which *computers* do what, you could consider a login for each station, if accountability is what you are concerned about. Liz, I like it. This will account for our student assistants with limited access and staff can log on when needing to use higher level functions. I'll go with this model. Dear Hollis, No worries that's what the list is for. We use one log-in for our circ staff, keeps things simple having to remember one user name/password. Like you say its also easier not having to log off and log on all the time. The only advantage I can think of having multiple log-ins is restrictions on what they can do (over ride fine check out, renewals of items, etc.), but most of that can be accomplished through the system preferences as well. Question for libraries using the acquisitions module. We are just going live with Koha version 3.6 and I’m setting up my funds and creating test orders I have a question about non-bibliographic charges on orders; things like shipping or service charges for which you do NOT want a bib record generated. My understanding is that Koha generates a bibliographic record for every line item in the order. What kinds of work-arounds are you using for these non-bibliographic charges? Thanks for your ideas. Heh, Koha 3.6.0 wont be released until October 22nd, so I'm guessing you mean what will become 3.6? (3.5.0.10 currently)
I have a question about non-bibliographic charges on orders; things like shipping or service charges for which you do NOT want a bib record generated. My understanding is that Koha generates a bibliographic record for every line item in the order. What kinds of work-arounds are you using for these non-bibliographic charges?
In older Koha you used to be able to enter those charges separately from the order lines, there is a bug lodged for this http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=6504 Im hoping this will be fixed and in 3.6.0 when its released, (or in 3.4.5 if its fixed by then). Until then, a trick you can do, is have one biblio, that you mark suppressed so it doesnt show up in opac searches, and attach all your charges to that. You don't need to create a new biblio each time, just keep using that same one again and again Hope this helps Chris
Correction for anyone interested. We are version 3.5.0.10. Also, I've been informed I can attach these to one suppressed bibliographic record at present. Appreciate the information. -Hollis -----Original Message----- From: koha-bounces@lists.katipo.co.nz [mailto:koha-bounces@lists.katipo.co.nz] On Behalf Of Hollis Near Sent: Thursday, September 01, 2011 4:41 PM To: koha Subject: [Koha] Acquisitions module - order question Question for libraries using the acquisitions module.
