Depends on which port the service is run. It can differ from provider to provider, and does.

you have not mentioned which version of Koha you have installed. Incidentally if you have installed an older version and have selected the LOC target provided, it may not work as LOC has changed its service parameters. The current LoC parameters are http://www.loc.gov/z3950/lcserver.html#addr FWIW, yaz-client is a handy command line tool to test your z39.50 connect strings cheers, -- Indranil Das Gupta Phone : +91-98300-20971 Blog : http://indradg.randomink.org/blog IRC : indradg on irc://irc.freenode.net Twitter : indradg -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Please exchange editable Office documents only in ODF Format. cheers,
I have installed the default Koha however the connection to library of congress fails.
If you are running the latest version of Koha (3.12 - released on 19th May) then the issue is most likely related to your server or organisation blocking access to the internet for the port number of the target Z3950 server. Many organisations block internet access for 'non-standard' ports, such as 210. Note: There was a change to the Library of Congress Z39.50 server details, this was fixed in the February releases for the 3.8 and 3.10 versions of Koha. See: http://bywatersolutions.com/2013/01/28/change-in-library-of-congress-z39-50-... If this doesn't help you with solving the problem, please advise: - the exact version of Koha you are running e.g. 3.12.0, 3.10.6 - the details of the LOC Z39.50 server you are trying to connect to: server name and port number. If you are behind an organisation firewall the traffic to the external Z39.50 server may be blocked. You would need to speak with your firewall administrator to allow access. The default port for a Z39.50 server to listen on is 210. This may be different depending on how the provider of the service has configured it.
