About KohaCon 2011 - ideas & thoughs
Hello world, I don't know for others, but travelling the world to go at the conference is a big investment. Having 3 days for the "user" part of the conference is enough. In 2006, in France, for the 1st KohaCon, that I organized, we had a full week for the developers. In 2009 we had only 3 days, same in 2010. I definetly think it was too short to have only 3 days for the developer part of the conference. We have to deal with teaching new developers how to get involved, experienced devs want to hack, some want to share ideas for the future. So I suggest to have more than just 3 days for the hack-fest. A full week may seems long, but I think it's the good timing ! It does not mean a decision must be taken immediatly, but I think the poll should reflect how possible it is to have more time. PS : and the idea to have a day off between conf & hack fest is definetly a good one !!! -- Paul POULAIN http://www.biblibre.com Expert en Logiciels Libres pour l'info-doc Tel : (33) 4 91 81 35 08

I am not sure people can commit a full week for HackFest, but at VPM, Thane, we should have no problem extending the hackfest. Plenty of space during Diwali holidays. I would agree with Paul that more than 3 days hackfest is a good thing, especially when international travel is involved. Several of us stayed extra days in Wellington, and Catalyst was kind enough to put up with us in their offices for a little longer :) I'd humbly request that the planners of KohaCon '11 consider the addition of some extra time for the hackfest; not necessarily a week, but a few days, as managable. I am not sure people can commit a full week for HackFest, but at VPM, Thane, we should have no problem extending the hackfest. Plenty of space during Diwali holidays. In fact, some will dedicate, some won't. It may depend on what those days contain. For example, we could have 1 day working on "how to become a developer", 1 day "what I'm about to add to Koha" (each company/dev

You can be sure I could give you ideas to work 2 full weeks doing a different thing every day ;-) But, the idea could be to have 1st topics that could be interesting for most ppl, then topics that could be of some interest for less ppl, so ppl could choose to stay 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 hackfest days -- Paul POULAIN http://www.biblibre.com Expert en Logiciels Libres pour l'info-doc Tel : (33) 4 91 81 35 08

That would be great. I had to spend a lot of time and needed a lot of help on IRC to get everything setup for Koha development. And I get stuck more frequently than not with all things Git. So it will be really good to have a "How to become a Koha developer" day. Regards, Koustubha Kale Anant Corporation Contact Details : Address : 103, Armaan Residency, R. W Sawant Road, Nr.
