Hi All, I'm in the midst of buying a new computer and I want to be able to install my own copy of Koha and Evergreen. I was planning to get a dual boot system with Ubuntu. I would just want to be able to use my copies of Koha and Evergreen to learn the system better. Would this be the approach you would recommend? Or should I do it with virtual box or something more along those lines? Lori
I don't what others recommend, I personally have Koha and Evergreen on their own virtual machines using Virtualbox on my computer. Nicole On Mon, Apr 12, 2010 at 2:31 PM, Lori Bowen Ayre <lori.ayre@galecia.com> wrote:

I agree - with the Guest Additions installed, VirtualBox is a dream. Dual booting is a pain, and it seems to become more annoying as time goes by. Get plenty of RAM and a 64-bit host OS. /paul/ -----Original Message----- From: open-ils-general-bounces@list.georgialibraries.org [mailto:open-ils-general-bounces@list.georgialibraries.org] On Behalf Of Nicole Engard Sent: Monday, April 12, 2010 2:42 PM To: Evergreen Discussion Group Cc: Koha list Subject: Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] local install for testing I don't what others recommend, I personally have Koha and Evergreen on their own virtual machines using Virtualbox on my computer. I hope people don't mind I'm keeping this thread on this list but it seems relevant for others who might be wanting to play around with Koha and Evergreen and don't have a room full of computers to do it with. Since I'm a very comfortable Windows user and I can't afford to spend 100% of time learning Ubuntu, I'm thinking the best approach is for me to get my new PC with plenty of RAM and disk space and Windows 7. I'll get VirtualBox and use that for creating my play area for Koha and Evergreen. I think that's the sanest approach for someone in my situation. Once I develop more Linux chops in my VirtualBox, I hope someday to graduate away from Windows entirely..... Can I have your vote? That's what I do. One nice thing about VirtualBox is that once you've got a successful installation set up you could even clone that hard disk image and create an identical setup for further testing--for instance, you might have one running the latest official release and one running the latest development release. -- Owen -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org

I like Virtualbox, which incidentally, is cross-platform. -- Jason Etheridge | VP, Tactical Development | Equinox Software, Inc. / The Evergreen Experts | phone: 1-877-OPEN-ILS (673-6457) | email: jason@esilibrary.com | web: http://www.esilibrary.com Please join us for the Evergreen 2010 International Conference!
