Religious holidays with shifting dates
Hello all, I am wondering if I could get some clarification on this, as I seem to be misunderstanding how to set religious holidays which are celebrated on a moving schedule wrt the Gregorian calendar. I'd like to set up the coming Eid al-Adha which starts on June 28 this year, and will be observed on June 28 and 29. I thought I was supposed to select "Holidays on a range", with "From date" June 28, and "To date" June 29. However when I do that, every day from June 28 to December 31 is marked as Eid al-Adha. Should I instead go with "Holiday only on this day" for both the 28th and 29th, although that's not technically true? I will have the same issue with Eid al-Fitr, observed from April 10-11 next year. Hi, Aida-- I wasn't able to replicate the problem—it worked for me. We're on 22.05.11.000, and here's what I did: Tools > Calendar I selected July 3, then in the "To date..." I chose July 4. (We're going to be closed these two days.) Then I selected the "Holidays on a range" radio button. Hi Heather, Yes, which is why I am confused about it. The same thing happened with New year, since we also get two days there. I've deleted the holidays, and I'll try again to see what happens this time. And another problem that came up just now - I'm trying to add the two Christmases - Catholic and Orthodox. The first one went fine, but the second is an issue since it falls on January 7, which is a Sunday in 2024 and I already have Saturdays and Sundays marked as holidays repeating weekly. When I click on the date, it offers me the options to generate exceptions or delete the holiday, but not to add a holiday. Is there a way to do this, or will I have to find a past year where January 7 didn't fall on a weekend and work from there? Hi, Aida! I used a 23.05 demo site listed at: https://koha-community.org/demo/ and was unable to replicate the problems, but I may not be doing exactly what you're doing. Can you try with a 23.05 demo? If you can replicate the problems in a 23.05 demo, then you've probably found a bug and can put the bug into Bugzilla (it's very easy to do!). If you can't replicate the problems on the demo site, then I would suggest asking the Koha-US System Administration SIG—their next meeting is July 11: https://koha-us.org/calendar/ Or maybe others have ideas? Hello Heather, Alright, I'll try on a demo and let you know what happens. What I am doing is: - I click on June 28, I get From date: Wednesdays, 28.6.2023 - I click on To date: and click on June 29. - I title the holiday Eid al-Adha - I select Holidays on a range. [?] Make a single holiday on a range. For example, selecting August 1, 2012 and August 10, 2012 will make all days between August 1 and 10 a holiday, but will not affect August 1-10 in other years. Let me see also what happens when I create a holiday for my vacation in August, if I can get the same error.
