Amazon cover images on OPAC, not on staff search?
Hello all We catalogue a new title, make sure that the 10 digit ISBN is in the first of the 020 fields. Often we even copy the 10 digit number from the Amazon site. After saving and indexing (Zebra) is complete, we find that the cover image appears correctly in the OPAC, but not in the results list when searching in the staff module - there we get 'no image available'. Other titles do have covers showing. I have Googled this and not found any references to this specific issue. Can anyone shed light? If other titles have covers showing, does that mean that only the one newly-added title has a missing cover? All newly-added titles? Can you share some example ISBNs? -- Owen -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org
Hi Owen, thanks for replying. Some work, some don't. I'm baffled. Examples, from a recent batch, all have cover images on Amazon.ca (our local Amazon flavour), and on Amazon.com When evil rules, 9780312947750. Added with both 13 and 10 digit ISBNs in 020, with the 13 digit one first. Later edited to have the 10 digit one first. No cover in staff search, cover works in OPAC. Faces of evil, 9781933893068. Added with both 13 and 10 digit ISBNs in 020, first with the 13 digit one first. Cover works fine in staff search, no cover in OPAC. Edited so the 10 digit ISBN is in the first 020, now the opposite applies - OPAC has the cover, staff search does not. River of darkness, 9780143171003. Has only one ISBN, cover image works in both OPAC and staff search. Real world, 9780307387486. Has only one ISBN, image does not appear in either OPAC or staff search. This disproves the theory on the list that Amazon only matches on the 10 digit ISBN. Any ideas, anyone? Our catalogue is at http://192.168.1.122 Agnes Owen Leonard wrote:

I have been checking a few more examples. The general pattern seems to be that the 10 digit ISBN is required for the OPAC to display a cover, and that nothing will induce the cover to appear in the staff search for newly added titles. However there are some exceptions where the the image appears in both staff search and OPAC. Can anyone tell what makes the difference? I attach 3 MARC records exported from our system, all catalogued at the same time. One does display the cover in both, the other two only in the OPAC. The one that works is "The way home" 0316156493 | 9780316156493 Agnes Owen Leonard wrote:
