What is the coded location qualifier in 952 $f
I'm getting ready to do a much more thorough load of marc into koha from my current system. In following the 952 framework I'm stuck on subfield f the "coded location qualifier". What is it?
Is there a complete listing of what was intended for the Koha-defined MARC fields and subfields? Or is this something that needs to be written up after picking the brains of HLT & Chris C.? Lenora A. Not me :) or HLT. Your best bet for MARC stuff is either Biblibre (Paul Poulain did the MARC work for Koha 2.0, which was what Nelsonville public library needed, so they could run Koha ... which is where Joshua was working at the time. (Given some of the recent misinformation I'm using this as an opportunity to inject a small history lesson)) Or Galen or Joe, they seem to know the answers to everything :) Chris

Practical answer: a field to ignore entirely ;) Long answer: It's probably derived from the MARC21 definition of the 852 $f, also called "coded location qualifier", which is meant to encode a situation where most of the items in a run of a serial are held in a location (e.g., the magazine stacks) with a few held in a second location (the new magazines area). For the gory details, please see: http://www.loc.gov/marc/holdings/hd852.html Koha doesn't do anything with that subfield, and certainly makes no attempt to parse the coding. Thanks Galen, Any other fields strike you worth ignoring completely? On Sep 17, 2009, at 3:07 PM, Galen Charlton wrote:

The old online manual had a useful breakdown of the various 952 subfields, at https://sites.google.com/a/liblime.com/koha-manual/Home/Table-of-Content s/Cataloging/item-fields-data-migration -- the new manual site doesn't seem to have an equivalent page unless I'm really going blind. At any rate, I don't think you need to worry about $f. The item breakdown says for Koha 952$f: "Three-character code that identifies the specific issues of the item that are located apart from the main holdings of the same item. This has no function in Koha." Jane Wagner Library Systems Analyst PTFS Inc.
