Honestly I don't see a big deal with holidays... if your book is overdue on exactly a holiday...well I guess you should get it in BEFORE the holiday(at least that seems responsible to me) don't most libraries have book drops? Then the book can be returned on time...and it's up to the library to configure koha if you want 5 day loans...you begin to charge AFTER day 6..so that it gives you 1 day to get the returned books entered.
Complex problems often have simple solutions.
This could work, but believe me, NOT in Poland. We`ve had at least a couple of very unpleasant situations, including court case, just because borrowers "ditn`t know" they have to return books earlier and they found shortening due dates "unacceptable". One old lady went to local newspaper and called us "fascists" only because we charged her $10 for overdues. Counting on people`s decency and common sense is asking for trouble, in my view. Book drop and grace days won`t solve the problem. You may think I`m a little paranoid, but all I want is to eliminate as many possibilities of controversial situations as possible. Regards, Tomasz.
