Salvete!
I've installed Koha 2.2.5 on Ubuntu server 6.06
Many people have had trouble with installing on this operating system and I couldn't find many documents on the web concerning koha on ubuntu.
So here is a link to a guide that I wrote as I completed the install: http://matthew.metzger.cc/wiki/index.php?title=Install_Koha_on_Ubuntu_6 .06
I'll be adding some details and making it read better as I have time.
Awesome, thanks a heap! I think we would see a lot more people running Koha if they only needed to put in two CDs and very little effort. Ubuntu installs very smoothly, and I'd love to see a CD for Koha that installs just as smoothly as Ubuntu. Cheers, Brooke @ Hinsdale MA
I imagine that my guide could be turned into an installation script by someone with more experience than I have. BWS Johnson wrote:

The best way to make Koha an easy install for Ubuntu, rather than producing an ad-hock CD, would be to get it integrated into Debian. Once it is integrated into Debian, installing a basic Koha system would be a simple one line command. Ubuntu base their system on Debian, so after the next Ubuntu release installing on an Ubuntu system would be just as easy. To integrate Koha into Debian, Koha needs to be packaged by someone. There was previous interest in this (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=186958) but it never got anywhere. I would very much like to see Koha packaged for Debian, and I'm willing to do some work on it. Is anyone else interested in helping with this effort? The steps would roughly be packaging it for Debian, testing the package, and getting an official Debian Developer to sponsor it. I have some experience with Debian packaging but I'm not an official Debian Developer. We will have to move quickly if we want it to go into the next official Debian release, scheduled for December. The release schedule I saw (http://lwn.net/Articles/185565/) puts the "freeze" at October 16th, which means we have to have it all ready before then. I've recently been through the process of installing Koha 2.2.5 on an Etch (Debian testing) computer. I believe it will be relatively straightforward to produce a Debian package. Agreed Mr. King. Unfortunately, I have no experience with Debian packaging. Testing, however, I can do. Part of my job is to maintain our school's library server (koha) and ensure the integrity of its data. Testing the reliability of the installation of backup servers certainly falls under that. We have a vested interest in the koha project. Please put me on your list of people to help with this project, if only for testing. -Matthew Alex King wrote:

While I had interest that somebody else would package it I have no resources to do it myself. The best idea to revitalize the idea of packaging it for Debian would be to reopen the big report, keep the bug address and the debian-devel@lists.debian.org in CC and not only me as a single DD. I might consider sponsoring if there is a perfect package but it is definitely not my main focus of interest and I would really prefer if you find another Debian developer, Kind regards Andreas. -- http://fam-tille.de
I am willing to review/sponsor/mentor/upload as needed, but I've never made perl packages before. I have sent a longer email to alex about this before I saw the latest list messages - maybe he will forward if appropriate. -- MJR/slef My Opinion Only: see http://people.debian.org/~mjr/ Please follow http://www.uk.debian.org/MailingLists/#codeofconduct
MJ, If you install webmin http://webmin.com/ <http://webmin.com/> You can use its PERL Module acces to CPAN to install PERL Modules, or locally downloaded modules for that matter. It determines all dependencies and also gets and installs them if necessary. Gerry Ray wrote:
