My IT guy has (finally) brought me in my server loaded with Koha and I have spent a bit of time using Brooke's Newbie Manual (unfortunately Nicole's link to the draft 3.0 Manual is not applicable). Both of these issues are addressed in 3.0, I'd highly suggest you consider upgrading to 3.0 rather than use 2.2.9, which is several years old at this point.

Hi Gayle, There have been other posts about your second problem and it looks like they solved it by filling in every single text box in the rules administration form, including the row with an asterisk.
