Dear Community! There has been talk about the email lists not serving us optimaly any longer. Liz Rea has taken some steps to check out Stack Exchange as an alternative: http://area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/60300/koha-open-source-library-sof... However, Stack Exchange does have a vetting system for new areas/topics before they are added to the site. The Koha topic needs two things to move on to the next stage: - 60 followers - 40 sample questions with at least 10 points/upvotes Each user can propose 5 sample questions and give 5 upvotes. Currently there are 8 followers, 11 example questions and the most voted question has 3 votes. So if you think Stack Exchange is an interesting site as an alternative to the mailing lists, you need to: - Sign up for Stack Exchange, if you are not already a member - Follow the Koha topic/site - Propose some example questions (we need at least 40) - Vote on example questions (we need at least 40 questions with a score of at least 10) ...at least that is my understanding of how things work. Corrections are welcome! Best regards, Magnus Enger libriotech.no

Could we support a fellow FOSS project like Shapado instead of working for free recruiting people for Stack Exchange, please? Sure! Just set it up and invite people. We'll see soon enough if any of these are able to attract critical mass. Best regards, Magnus Enger libriotech.no
As a long time Stack Exchange vet, I'd **love** to see a koha Stack Exchange site... but given the "community" drive here, I must admit that I'm not sure Stack Exchange is the best fit in this case. Koha's needs tend to swing slightly more towards a traditional forum. Stack Exchange might stifle some of the discussion that keeps this community healthy. To that end, if people here still like Stack Exchange, we could try Discourse (www.discourse.org), which is sort of open source, but has some of the Stack Exchange team behind it. And that's really the key question, IMO -- whether there is a critical mass of interest. The fate of the libraries StackExchange may be instructive. On the one hand, the potential pool of participants in a Koha SE-like is presumably smaller than the folks generally interested in libraries. On the other hand, the SE model may be a better fit for Koha, since the project is a software project, after all, and lends itself better to building up a base of "best practice" answers. Either way, we can't know until we try. Even if we end up not using StackExchange itself and use a self-hosted SE-like instead, I think there is a lot of value in going through the StackExchange proposal process to verify that there is sufficient interest. I'm doing my part to make this experiment useful, and I encourage others to do so as well, even if you have reservations about the particular platform. I also like the look of discourse as a more comprehensive alternative. Galen's plan of proving via stack exchange is great though. I'll be doing my part too. Martin On 23 Sep 2013 15:49, "Galen Charlton" <gmc@esilibrary.com> wrote:
