Playing a sound file with bad barcodes
We've trained our staff to look at the screen as they're checking materials in & out, but every now & then circ staff miss when a barcode is misread. This means that an item is either not properly checked in or not properly checked out. A neat enhancement would be to have Koha play a sound whenever this happens. In the meantime, has anyone used a Greasemonkey script or the like for this purpose? Text of the error messages is as follows: No Item with barcode The barcode was not found Other ideas I may have overlooked? What version are you using? There are audio cues in the latest version of Koha. -- Owen -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org
I have only seen this feature work with Firefox just my two cents (more like a penny and half with these economic times) :) Respectfully, James Ghiorzi Library Assistant II San Benito County Free Library 470 Fifth St. Hollister, CA 95023 (831) 636-4107 ________________________________________ From: koha-bounces@lists.katipo.co.nz [koha-bounces@lists.katipo.co.nz] On Behalf Of Owen Leonard [oleonard@myacpl.org] Sent: Friday, September 23, 2011 9:33 AM To: Cab Vinton Cc: Koha list Subject: Re: [Koha] Playing a sound file with bad barcodes

Thanks, Owen. We'll be updating to 3.04.02.000 soon. Looks like there's a "soundon" setting in the Circ preferences in this version, which seems to be working: BEEP w/ valid barcode & DA-DA-DUM w/ invalid barcodes. There doesn't seem to be a way to specify a custom file or sound to play -- not sure how big coding job that would be -- but this should work for us. Thanks again! It uses HTML5, so some browsers won't do it. Firefox and Chrome will. Koha works best all around with Firefox or Chrome. On Fri, Sep 23, 2011 at 12:48 PM, Cab Vinton <bibliwho@gmail.com> wrote:

Yeah, it would be nice to be able to make the sounds as configurable as, say, item type images, with sets of different sounds and means of specifying an external URL. Someone will have to want that enough to do it or pay for it :) -- Owen -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org
