Re: [Koha] Inquiry: Batch download e-books from Springer Databaseto KOHA with Marc-Records
Hi, Does this mean I have to request a MARC records file from Springer themselves?? Is this normal to ask for? Would they know what I am talking about? On Sun, Mar 7, 2010 at 2:24 PM, Irma Birchall <irma@calyx.net.au> wrote:
Hi Susan,
Welcome to Koha.
When You receive a MARC records file from Springer, save it on your desktop so that when you "Import marc records" hit the browse button and retrieve it from your desktop. See how you go. You might find the manual helpful too:*

Do I need a marc record file? I see "Import marc records", but it asks me for a file.
If I require a MARC file, do I need to contact Springer to give me this file? OR is there another way?
Thank you,

Hi Indranil,
How do you import Marc21 records from the Springer DBs?? I am really unsure of how to connect Koha + Springer together and how to do "batch download"?
Please walk me through the steps or direct me to an article explaining this?
Do I need a z39.50 server or how?? :)
Thank you,

At the moment, our Institute is registered with Springer, for 14k or 15k of online e-books. My library director has requested me to look into whether Koha can do automatic batch downloading of all those e-books into our KOHA system, with "MARC Records" created for them.
One of my clients' - West Bengal University of Technology, are subscribed to Springer ebooks for copyright years 2005, 2006 and 2007, approx 13k of ebooks. Never faced any problem with importing the Springer Marc21 records from their site into my client's Koha installation. The DOI links in the Springer Marc file are preserved as the URI sub-tag `u` of 956 of each individual ebook record.
So an user browsing the OPAC can click the link and will be taken to the content on Springer site (my client uses campus IP based authentication).
Now honestly, I am new to Koha, so I have no idea if this is feasible or not, that's why I am asking you guys :)
From my experience, it just works, however YMMV

Hi Susan, Pretty sure the fees you pay Springer include Springer supporting you as you become familiar with their services. Give them a call. They will have load of experience and making records available for uploading into Koha won't be new to them. The Koha community tries to support you, as you are new to Koha, with Koha related questions. Wishing you good progress. I just want to update the link that Irma sent you - it should be: http://koha-community.org/documentation/3-2-manual/ This is the current manual. Anyway, I don't know about Springer, but most book vendors send their libraries marc files with their order - if Springer doesn't do this, then you need to ask Springer if there is a way to get a marc export of the books in the system. After that you go to the Stage MARC Records for Import tool and follow the manual and the on screen instructions. Thanks Nicole 2010/3/7 Susan Mustafa <susan.mustafa@gmail.com>:
