Hi John Ill let Rosalie answer more fully if shes about. But HLT, the original Koha library, use bar coded library cards, and scanners. And have done for nearly 3 years now with koha. Barcoded books as well. Im fairly sure some other koha users must be using scanners as well. There was some talk a little while back about scanners on the development list, ill see if i can find it and forward it for you.
