Installing Koha on Windows PC via Linux enquiry
Hi folks, I am new to Koha and the mailing list. I would like to find out how I can install Koha on a Windows PC via Linux(?) Is it possible? Is there a guide online? I am trying to convert a library catalogue Excel spreadsheet into Koha . yours in desperation, Matt www.halswaymanor.org.uk<http://www.halswaymanor.org.uk/>

You can install Debian (preferably) on VirtualBox running on Windows (or use any other virtualization software on Windows) and then deploy Koha inside the VM running Debian. https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Debian As for your catalogue data in Excel, you will have to use a software like MarcEdit or hand-roll a solution to convert the spreadsheet data into MARC21 records. You will probably want to ensure that your data is de-duplicated properly. hope this helps cheers Indranil. -- Indranil Das Gupta L2C2 Technologies Phone : +91-98300-20971 WWW : http://www.l2c2.co.in Blog : http://blog.l2c2.co.in IRC : indradg on irc://irc.freenode.net Twitter : indradg

Snap! :) Bob
Koha does not run on windows. Install a virtual machine on your windows box and install Debian or Ubuntu in the VM. Have you considered purchasing a Linux VM from a cloud provider? There are many options, some at very low cost. Or subscribe to a Koha cloud service. There are at least two providers in the UK. HTH, Bob Birchall Calyx On 21/12/17 20:04, Matt Rose wrote:

And whatever you do, do it on a test system first. When I was installing Koha, on my own, without a provider, I just kept wiping the disk and reinstalling everything until I got it right. It took a while, mostly because I didn't know what I was doing, but I learned a lot. Matt, I agree with others, the way forward is to install Virtual Box onto windows, create a virtual machine and install Debian Linux onto it, then install Koha onto Debian following the instructions at https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Debian I am no Koha expert but I have successfully migrated our catalogue, our patron data, and our list of currently issued books from an Excel spreadsheet into Koha. Basic process is: 1. Export relevant sheets of the spreadsheet as CSV or Tab-separated files 2. Tweak the files into the format that Koha needs (I used little awk scripts for this; Python would be another good choice) 3. In the case of the catalogue data I then used marcedit to convert the CSV file into MARC records ready for import Coming to this as a non-librarian by far the hardest part was figuring out which MARC fields we needed to populate. I would suggest that even though you might be hosting the VM on Windows, this is going to be primarily a Linux-flavoured experience for you. Contact me directly if you want; I might be able to offer further help. Best Regards, Chris Brown On Thu, Dec 21, 2017 at 9:04 AM, Matt Rose <library@halswaymanor.org.uk> wrote:
