Hi there, can anyone tell me whether Koha has an authority file for name and subject? When you're cataloguing an item, is there a place to enter a name or subjecy in an authority list for search purposes? Thanks, Ailish Farragher Dublin, Ireland
Hi

I think that there is for subjects - but I don't think so for names. I'm not a librarian, so hopefully I've understood the question properly. There is certainly a list of subjects, that the system checks agains - I'm not sure if you can just "Make up" new ones, I think not. I don't think there is the same things for names Cheers Rachel_____________________________________________________________ Rachel Hamilton-Williams Katipo Communications WEBMISTRESS ph 021 389 128 or +64 04 934 1285 mailto:rachel@katipo.co.nz PO Box 12487, Wellington http://www.katipo.co.nz New Zealand Koha Open Source Library System http://www.koha.org
can anyone tell me whether Koha has an authority file for name and subject? Well, yes and no. No to a name authority file, and yes, of sorts, to a subject authority file. The subject authority file works by checking subjects as you add them - if it's new, it ask if you want to add that subject. If you're not sure, you can backtrack and enter a truncated subject, and Koha will run you a list of subjects that start with your
Hello Ailish truncation. There is not yet a facility for see references and see also references. At HLT we get round the name authority question by not adding any new bibliographic data unless we've already donw a bibliographic search - which will hopefully have brought up any previous entries for that author. It's unconventional, but it works for us. On 2 Apr 2003, at 13:26, Ailish Farragher wrote: Rosalie Blake Horowhenua Library Trust
