Experiences with migrating from Aleph to Koha?
Dear Community! I'm writing on behalf of a library that currently uses Aleph, and is a bit curious about Koha. They want to know if there are any libraries that have made the switch, and what the experience was like. I guess this falls into two categories: - How smooth was the migration? - How big was the leap, in terms of functionality, features etc They would also be interested in which modules of Aleph were used before the change. If you answer me on or off the list I will forward the answers to the library in question, or put you in touch with them for further communication. Best regards, Magnus Enger libriotech.no
Hi Magnus, I have not yet had the opportunity to migrate an Aleph library to Koha. However, as luck would have it, I did a short stint as a cataloger in a library that used Aleph. One of the hurdles that I think you may encounter is how you catalog in Aleph. I had to create a bibliographic record, then a 'holding record' and finally the item record. It was a three tiered setup as opposed to the two tiered setup (bibs and items) that exists in Koha. Hope that helps! Hi, Another thing to watch for -- MARC records exported from Aleph can include alphabetic tags, which should be stripped or renamed prior to trying to load them into Koha. Regards, Galen On Fri, Nov 29, 2013 at 11:21 AM, Joy Nelson <joy.nelson1@yahoo.com> wrote:

Hi, Although I have not done but If you can send us sample reports from Aleph, we can try and revert you accordingly. You will also enjoy open source environment after migrating to koha.
