Hi all, I work in an academic Library. I would like to put a provision for clearing users who have completed their studies without deleting their account. How do I deactivate their accounts so that one can use the account to borrow books. Looking forward for your advice. Thank you. Tom

If I understand correctly, you would like to disallow a batch of users from logging into OPAC but the staff users should still be able to checkout/checkin books to those users. Is that right ? A script will be needed to make this work. Warm regards, Ketan On Wed, Aug 2, 2023 at 9:40 AM Ruqaiya Said Alfarsi < ruqaiya.alfarsi@unizwa.edu.om> wrote:

Hi Ketan, Not really. I am looking for a situation whereby once a user have been cleared in the Koha, the person who has been cleared cannot borrow books from the system. When such a person attempts to borrow a book, the system will deny him/her. Regards On Tue, Aug 1, 2023 at 9:21 PM Ketan Kulkarni <ketan404@gmail.com> wrote:

I’m not sure what “cleared” means in your context, but to stop users from borrowing then change their expiry date to before the current date, add a restriction to their record or maybe change their category to a group that cannot borrow? Could you make a new patron category that isn't allowed to check out books? You could add a notice on the checkout screen: "No checkouts." You can probably do it with the tool Batch Patron Modification, though I've never used it myself. Hi Tom, A couple ways: 1) Soft delete the patron records so that they are moved from borrowers table to deletedborrowers table. There are both pros and cons to this. Biggest advantage being your patron related queries will speed up. And you call still pull up the details of your soft deleted borrowers using SQL queries. The con being that you can't directly access a soft deleted record from the Koha staff client UI (except via custom SQL reports). 2) By using the "discharge" feature in Koha which will restrict the user account for an indefinite period. See https://koha-community.org/manual/21.11/en/html/patrons.html#patron-discharg... There is one catch though, it requires you to discharge one patron at a time, iirc, you can't do bulk discharge. However, on the plus side you can still see the full patron record from within Koha's staff client UI. Hope this helps, Indranil Das Gupta L2C2 Technologies On Tue, Aug 1, 2023, 22:23 Tom Obrien <tobrienu@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi Tom We only clean out old borrower records every 5 years or so (accounts that haven't been used in 5 years or more) so we have a lot of borrower records that belong to accounts that are not currently being used. Our main concern isn't loans (we don't have self-checkout, so staff are always involved in lending books) but rather access to on-line resources: Catalyst set up a script that runs nightly and sets the 'lost card' flag (which we don't use otherwise) for any accounts that expired that day. We then have a SIP rule in EZProxy to not authenticate borrows who have a 'lost card' flag set. I don't know whether this will help directly, but it might give you some ideas.
