z39.50 searching - Permanent system error
Hi: I'm having trouble when I do z39.50 searching. Certain servers-- the New York Public Library [catnyp.nypl.org], or the Aurora Public Library [ odyssey.aurora.lib.co.us] for example-- will yield hits for results, but then only give me the message: 1: Permanent system error: Permanent system error: Bib-1 I don't know that this is a bug, really, but I'm trying to figure out exactly what is happening. Question one: what does this error actually mean? It seems to occur consistently for certain searches (ISBN-13 978-1-59722-733-9, for example gives me the error for both Aurora and the NYP consistently) while other searches can run through the same servers without a hitch. Is the "system" error my system, or theirs? Or is there some sort of compatibility issue? Two: beyond figuring out what's happening, I ideally would love to be able use z39.50 with these systems-- are other libraries able to accomplish this? Anyone else experienced this issue? There seem to be lots of servers that yield this error message-- I just listed these two as an example. It means there's some permanent error in the system when getting that result.
It seems to occur consistently for certain searches (ISBN-13 978-1-59722-733-9, for example gives me the error for both Aurora and the NYP consistently) while other searches can run through the same servers without a hitch. Is the "system" error my system, or theirs?
I think it's theirs.
Or is there some sort of compatibility issue?
Possibly.

Yes. I can't get that result either, but I can find 0062715275 for example. I had a few problems working nypl.org from the yaz-client command-line: features not supported and that sort of thing.
Anyone else experienced this issue? There seem to be lots of servers that yield this error message-- I just listed these two as an example. (Incidentially, I'm using Koha 3.00.00.107)

Slef and Max, I also have this error. Frustratingly I'm having it with sources that worked up until I upgraded to the stable release of Koha 3. -ramon

When/what version worked? I confirm the same error as above happens on 3.00.00.095 and 103 but I'd rather not go installing more old versions that I need to. I've currently got 107 installed. Previously I had 44, 67 and I think something around 99 (can't find the source to check - suspect it went when I reinstalled the OS in preparation for 107). -ramon

This error is a temporary effort to avoid koha throwing an error. See http://bugs.koha.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2327 Regards, Chris

I understand why we now get shown the error message instead of the Code 500 page since http://git.koha.org/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=Koha;a=commitdiff;h=500b7ee4d63de29... but does it explain why books that used to import from NYP no longer work? I'm wondering if one of the other recent changes listed on http://git.koha.org/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=Koha;a=history;f=cataloguing/z3950_... are rejected by NYP's server for some reason.
