Hi-- We have a few photograph collections cataloged as such, e.g.: http://keys.bywatersolutions.com/cgi-bin/koha/opac-detail.pl?biblionumber=28... We also have some archival collections that contain, or are primarily, photographs, cataloged at the collection level, with records in our Koha catalog for the finding aids--we're going to be working on attaching more refined items to these records (e.g., if the collection contains photographs and charts, we'll add an item record for photographs and an item record for charts, to facilitate searching by item type): http://keys.bywatersolutions.com/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?idx=kw&op=and&idx=kw&op=and&idx=kw&do=Search&limit=mc-itype%2Cphr%3AARCHIVES&sort_by=relevance We also have cataloged a lot of pulp fiction covers, which might be helpful, since they're also visual materials, and a lot of them have the image loaded: http://keys.bywatersolutions.com/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?q=pulp+literatu... We've also been digitizing and cataloging some bookplates--this search will bring up the analytic records for the hardcopy bookplates as well as their digitized, online versions: http://keys.bywatersolutions.com/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?idx=su&q=bookplates Hope this helps! Thanks Nicole & Heather! I'll look on those libraries. What could be the MARC tag for place taken? I'm thinking it still is 260$a And date taken? 260$c? Hi--
What could be the MARC tag for place taken? I'm thinking it still is 260$a And date taken? 260$c?
We use the 260 (or 264 with RDA) fields for information on the creation of the photographic media if we have it (the negative, print, etc.) supplemented by notes if needed. We include a summary note about the content of the image in a 520, e.g. (made up example): 260 _ _ [San Francisco, California] : $b [George Smith Studio], $c [1939] 520 _ _ Group portrait of Permanente Metals Corporation executives visiting Richmond Shipyard No. 1 before the launch of the SS Really Big Ship on September 24, 1939. 500 _ _ Printed by the George Smith Studio for distribution to local media. And then access for the location would be in the subject headings, e.g.: 610 20 Richmond Shipyard Number One (Richmond, Calif.) $v Photographs. 651 0_ Richmond (Calif.) $v Photographs. 610 20 Permanente Metals Corporation $x Employees $v Photographs. 655 _0 Portraits, Group. 710 2_ George Smith Studio (San Francisco, Calif.) etc. Some collections also use 75X for geographic information. We also code the 043 for geographic content, as well. Also, about your question in your other message about the collection information, we also include 7XX headings for established collection titles, so that they are accessible via researchers' keyword searching, browsing, etc., with appropriate 6XX headings and form subdivisions (like the above example). As for types of reproductions, yes--we use notes. When we don't know much, a 500 note, e.g. (made up example): 500 _ _ Photograph of painting. But if we really know exactly what was photographed, then we can do a detailed 533/534 note combination, and even, e.g., a 776 field to link to the record of the item photographed (if possible). Hope this is helpful! Very good info. I will take into account your comments once I get to working on the records. Thanks and cheers! -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/koha-and-photographs-tp5780278p5780515.htm... Sent from the Koha-general mailing list archive at Nabble.com.
Very, very interesting. I'm not a librarian and the example given is most helpful. I have a "maritime" question: in the case of a ship's photograph, where would/do you keep the ships' IMO number, its call code or other such identity numbers? The same for the business entities involved (builder, owner etc.) Best regards, Manos PETRIDIS Από το iPhone μου 9 Δεκ 2013, 7:06 μ.μ., ο/η "Hernandez, Heather" <heather_hernandez@nps.gov> έγραψε:

We record identity numbers for the ship, when the ship is more well-known by its name(s), as see-references in the authority record, and business entities related to the ship are recorded in the authority record's notes--the authority records contain all the information available about the ship, and all variant ways someone would search for materials about that ship. When, e.g., a book or photograph contains content related to the business entities associated with a ship, then those entities are also recorded in appropriate subject and/or name added entries (610, 710, etc.) on the bibliographic record. (Most of our headings for ships have been established under AACR2, and we're just implementing RDA, by the way.) So our authority records for a ship with name changes would contain fields something like these (made up examples): 110 2_ Monumental (Cargo ship) 410 2_ Hull no. 2534 410 2_ IMO 1234567 510 2_ President Washington (Cargo ship) $w b 667 __ SS Monumental built at Bethlehem Shipyard, San Francisco, hull no. 2534, launched Apr. 5, 1932, for Pacific Mail Steamship Co.; sold to American President Lines on Mar. 2, 1946, name changed to SS Stupendous upon sale. 110 2_ President Washington (Cargo ship) 410 2_ Hull no. 2534 410 2_ IMO 1234567 510 2_ Monumental (Cargo ship) $w a 667 __ SS Monumental built at Bethlehem Shipyard, San Francisco, hull no. 2534, launched Apr. 5, 1932, for Pacific Mail Steamship Co.; sold to American President Lines on Mar. 2, 1946, name changed to SS President Washington upon sale. If a vessel, though, is more well known by a number, then that's its established heading, e.g., "PT-109 (Torpedo boat)." But since we have a historical collection, most of the ships for which we're establishing headings are more well known by a name rather than a number. Cheerio! And just to compare notes. The one I'm working on has some sort of heading which are categories of the photograph collections, example of which: Arts and Crafts, Architecture, and Churches and Church Art. I ask the staff if they want some sort of browsing through all these and able to list them for statistical purposes and they answered 'Yes'. So, I put it in Collection Code 'Photographs - Heading Name' (e.g. Photographs - Arts and Crafts). There is this Image Type field with data: Reproduction: Painting, Original, Reproduction: Chart, to name a few. I'm guessing to put it somewhere in notes, 5xx? Hello all! I'm done converting the photographs, considering sample catalogs, looking at MARC21 and client's needs. For purpose of comparing notes and for reference, I'm posting below sample MARC records: tag 530 is with notes, with the following text: "with negatives, with prints, with transparency, withotherstext(media format notes (e.g. colored, etc.). 561 is Ownership and custodial history note(collection), 591 is image type note, 648 date subject, and item type Retrato, 949$g is supposed to be date entered 10/13/1999 8:39 but I get the following when I converted it to MARC edit (will have to check on this) =LDR 00000nam 2200000Ia 45e0 =008 131223e1934ph ||||| |||| 0| a| | =099 \\$aAC00001 =245 \\$aAgapito Aguilar: "Saint Joseph" 1934 =500 \\$aOil on canvas. 68" x 40".
