We've just migrated to Koha, and would like to search OCLC via Z39.50. I have been unsuccessful in getting it to work, has anyone else tried this? Jeannette Legg Technical Services Plumas County Library
Last time I searched OCLC's site it specifically said that they do not allow their database to be searched via Z39.50. Those who use OCLC usually use Connexion and then export records for import into Koha. Nicole C. Engard On Wed, Jan 5, 2011 at 3:45 PM, Plumas County Library <pclibq@psln.com> wrote:

Hi All, I would just like to actually correct that OCLC databases are able to be searched via z39.50 in Koha. (I use it on a weekly basis). OCLC have information about their z39.50 service on their website. I have listed two OCLC websites below, regarding their z39.50 service. z39.50 Cataloging [Search and retrieval of MARC Records from WorldCat]http://www.oclc.org/z3950/default.htm z39.50 Configuration Guide for OCLC z39.50 Cataloginghttp://www.oclc.org/support/documentation/z3950/config_guide/ I hope this helps anyone whom is wanting to use OCLC via Koha's z39.50 interface. Kindest Regards,Joel

Hi, You need the following information to create a Z39.50 search target for OCLC: In Koha, go to Administration and select Z39.50 client targets. Click on New Target and fill in the boxes. Host: zcat.oclc.org Port: 210 Database: OLUCWorldCat Username: from your cataloger Password: from your cataloger Checked: 1 Rank: can leave blank--will display as 0 Syntax: MARC21/USMARC (from dropdown list) Encoding: UTF8 If you need additional help, you can find the OCLC connection information at http://www.oclc.org/us/en/support/documentation/z3950/config_guide/ Good luck! Becky
