Hello, I never tried the demo. I have been working with Koha for sometime but don't have it running in a production environment. I do have every record and copy loaded into Koha from 5 libraries at Wareham Public Schools in Wareham, MA. That's about 41,000 records all done by bulkmarcimport. Bulkmarcimport works very good, but for that many records could take 5-6 hours depending on the computer they are going to. You need to set up where things are going in advance, or some data will be missing. I'm not a librarian, but do have a Master's in network and database technology. I think it's a a great piece of software, but again I'm not a librarian. It does need to tweeked along the way to get it to do what you want it to do, but that's the nature of Open Source. You can take a look at my test site. http://www.wareham.mec.edu:8000 Kent N On Thu, 2006-02-02 at 12:42 -0500, Jennifer Wilms wrote:
Hello. I've been subscribing to this list because I am thinking of using Koha for our library. If you have a free second today, could you send a response to let me know how your experience has been going? I tried the demo but it didn't work well at all - I had an awful time trying to upload a MARC record. Have you tried this? Aside from your call number question, has Koha worked well for you?
Thanks in advance for your time.

I have a similar problem with call numbers not showing where you would think they should be. Any suggestions on this.
I'm using the NPL theme.
Here is an example:
Search for "whale" in OPAC returns hits. "Call number" for all hits is empty, however "Available at" has the branch with local call number in parentheses. This makes sense because the call number sound follow the branch.
If I open an individual record from OPAC, the "Call number" is again missing and "Location" contains the branch with local call number in parentheses. This also makes sense.
If I go in through kohaadmin and look at a particular record with copies "barcode" shows up correctly "Local call number" shows up correctly "homebranch" shows up correctly "holdingbranch" shows up correctly
items.itemcallnumber is mapped to 952h. I populated tag 952h with the local call number when I loaded the data using bulkmarcimport.
Try it:
http://www.wareham.mec.edu:8000/ Search for "whale"
#2) How can I deal with duplicate barcodes in different branches? I have branches that used to be independent now they are part of a system of 5 schools. If I go to check out a book, sometimes it will take the barcode from a different branch.

Hi all,
Maybe this is a silly question, but I hope there is somebody who can assist me.
I try to catalog via Koha. Everything seems fine but I didn't manage to get my call number display correctly. I intend to use LC Call Number as my Local Call Number. Which Koha-MARC subfield should be link?
maybe, those who are interested can check out my temporary setup koha site at
It will be online for several days, as I just host it in my PC. Currently only 3 items cataloged. Try search for "Linux".
It will display 2 items found, and call number: QA76.76.O63 instead of QA76.76.O63 D688 2004. For your information, I catalog QA76.76.O63 under tag 050a and D688 2004 under tag 050b. My concern is, how can I display complete call number on my OPAC?
*. Currently, my biblioitems.classification link to field 050a. Which koha fields I should link to my call number?
Appreciate those who can help. Thank you in advance.
