PTFS/LibLime - misconfigured koha-community.org DNS records
Hi Folks, Is someone at PTFS/LibLime willing to correct the DNS records of... koha-community.net koha-community.com kohacommunity.org kohacommunity.us and point these to their correct destination of koha-community.org. All above DNS records seems to be incorrectly configured, and re-direct to a generic network-solutions webpage :/ If not... Is someone at PTFS/LibLime willing to explain to the Koha community why the DNS records will not be corrected? Cheers, Mason. -- KohaAloha, NZ.

Better yet... maybe someone at PTFS can explain what the underlying motive was in buying up domains that are clearly intended to sew more confusion and discord. I say that this issue is far from dead and that this appears to be further evidence of an on-going subtle, subversive, and covert attempt to turn Koha into a single point of control and ownership project. (This happened to Amanda, an open-source project which is now totally controlled by Zamanda, a for-profit company and has very little community input or contribution.) This appears to be an attempt to bring this domain name under the umbrella of the Koha US trademark. Kind Regards, Chris

oops, a typo... koha-community.net koha-community.com koha-community.us <<<< kohacommunity.org
Hi all, I hope the Koha global community, but especially the American libraries who are PTFS clients, make a very loud, public and clear message that it is not ok for PTFS to behave like this. This is war folks. PTFS are trying to STEAL koha away from the community. Many many individuals and institutions have invested enormous amounts of labour and cash into making Koha what it is today. When you choose to go with Koha you are choosing to join a community. You may take what has been done before you by others and contribute back to the whole. That is the moral contract. Silence shows that you condone the behaviour of PTFS. Blog, publish, phone, knock on their door but whatever you do please don't just sit and watch them steal a decades worth of collaborative work. Jo, I don't quite see it in those terms, however I understand your frustration. If PTFS/Liblime have registered those domain names, it is hard to identify their motivation. It would be nice if they'd explain. In the meantime, lets keep making Koha better. Hi all, I watched this with dismay when it came up about a month ago as well. I want to assure you that several of the US PTFS clients have been talking with PTFS about this. We do hope there is a solution in the near future, but can't talk about it until a few other things are in place. Off to a great week! David Schuster

I'm curious what has to be "in place" for a company to stop domain-squatting. As usual, the Koha community is communicating in public. And also as usual, PTFS will only communicate in private and through proxies. PTFS, if you've got something you'd like to tell us you know where to find us. -- Owen -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org
Yes, there are lots of "us" out there. We are a curious lot, and we want to know more. PTFS, please tell us what we have a right to know. Is this a "business model" or sharp business practice? er, well, actually, having those names point to koha-community.org isn't exactly what we want--if they started being used w/PTFS still owning the names the community wouldn't be better off. The name squatting does fit with the PTFS way to doing business to at the expense of the community and their customers but having the names point to nothing useful is probably a better option. It really is a gratuitously silly look for them. -reed
I looked up the DNS Registration for koha-community.net and I think it indicates the domain was just purchased on May 2, 2010. Is that true? I believe so, right after the community moved to koha-community.org. 2010/9/14 Lori Bowen Ayre <lori.ayre@galecia.com>
