attempting to install Koha at Bluehost.com
Dear fellow list members, In am interested in installing Koha onto a web hosting account and not on a home computer. I decided to try Bluehost because I saw that they allowed editing the php.ini file and so figured that they might be my best shot at getting Koha installed on subscription account that I could afford. Other than wondering if anyone else has been successful in doing so with any web site hosting companies I request feedback on the following. After finding out that that Bluehost (www.bluehost.com) uses Fedora I emailed the Bluehost tech support the Install file and asked them to look it over and tell me if I could install it in my web hosting account as part of a web site. (Though the Install instructions were dated from 2005 I was hoping that they would be sufficient). Bellow is the the response email I recieved from the Bluehost tech support staff. First though, here are my questions in relation to their response: A) are there substitute Perl modules that I can install because Bluehost says that they can only install modules when there is a "stable version" of them? E.g.: 1)Sendmail v0.79 <-- Bluehost says that it is not in a stable release and so they won't install it. What can I do about this? 2)Net::Z3950 v0.51 <-- I looked this one up and it is outdated by a replacement. Since this was written in 2005 then perhaps I can use the replacement instead? What can I do about this. B) In short: would someone please give me a list of what I should ask the web hosting company (in this case Bluehost) to install? in gratitude, Truth C. Now this makes more sense. Please keep related emails in one thread and please could you set a line-wrap about 68 characters? It will make it much easier for people to reply and we're doing this free...
1)Sendmail v0.79 <-- Bluehost says that it is not in a stable release and so they won't install it. What can I do about this?
You mean Mail::Sendmail (Sendmail is something else). You can probably use an older one, but you may miss some features. I don't think the usage has changed and Koha doesn't *require* the features, so you should be OK, but your mailserver might require the features. The changelog for it is http://alma.ch/perl/scripts/Sendmail/Changes
2)Net::Z3950 v0.51 <-- I looked this one up and it is outdated by a replacement. Since this was written in 2005 then perhaps I can use the replacement instead? What can I do about this.
I think a newer one should be fine. This was surprisingly missing from my list of dependencies! I'll investigate how that happened... ...it seems that it is loaded with "require" and not "use". I'll ask the devel list why. Which module is "this module" there? Net::Z3950 is deprecated, it relies on an old codebase that's unmaintained and buggy. Net::Z3950::ZOOM is the module currently used by Koha's Z39.50 client, and the only required module of the two for Koha. The namespace is a bit confusing, I know, but due to an API change in ZOOM, the old Net::Z3950 has been left as is until ZOOM can handle the older syntax (to avoid breaking existing apps
----- "MJ Ray" <mjr@phonecoop.coop> wrote: that use Net::Z3950). Adding the old syntax to ZOOM is on the roadmap, but due to financial limitations hasn't been prioritized. Hope that clarifies. See what happens when you give me rambling indirect answers: I forget what question I asked. :-/ Any road up, the right action is to remove Net::Z3950 from PREREQ_PM. Do we still use Class::Accessor, Event and HTML::Template? Do we still use Class::Accessor, Event and HTML::Template? We don't use Event, we do use HTML::Template, I'm not sure about Class::Accessor.

I see from hdl's list that HTML::Template is used only in maclesold.pl,MACLES.pl,macles.v1.0.pl - will they be in 3.0? I can't see Class::Accessor or Event. I think Event was pulled in by Net::Z3950, which is going away. I await your replies with interest. Thanks,
Class::Acessor is a required module for MARC::Charset or MARC::File::XML. imho, it shouldnot appear as a dependance. About HTML::Template, the scripts you point are ancient versions of a script. They will not be in version 3.0. Right. Have a nice day. -- Henri-Damien LAURENT
