barcodes not visible in OPAC
We recently upgraded to 3.04.01 - Staff who work in the reading room have told me they can no longer see the item barcodes in the OPAC. I have a feeling this has something to do with the way Koha now handles the item records. The MARC framework is set to display barcodes (952p) in the OPAC. But they don't appear anywhere. As a stopgap I tried to get it to display in the ISBD but that doesn't work either. Barcodes are critical in our library as a means of differentiation between multiple (sometimes annotated) copies shelved in different locations. Many of our readers make use of them. Is there any way I can get them to display in the OPAC, or do I have to request an enhancement/ bug fix? -- Elaine Bradtke Data Wrangler VWML English Folk Dance and Song Society | http://www.efdss.org Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent's Park Road, London NW1 7AY Tel +44 (0) 20 7485 2206 ext 36 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Registered Company No. 297142 Charity Registered in England and Wales No. 305999 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Writing about music is like dancing about architecture" --Elvis Costello (Musician magazine No. 60 (October 1983), p. 52)

Hi Elaine Did they used to show? If so, in what version? I can't recall barcodes showing in the OPAC except when placing a hold (they show there in 3.4.1) but I could be mistaken. (Or maybe it was a local customisation?) Chris
We were on 3.2 before the upgrade. It's not something I noticed myself, but then I don't use the OPAC. My boss says they were there (and he doesn't use the staff interface). We haven't customized Koha. We don't allow holds, so it would not have been in the holds context. Elaine On Tue, May 31, 2011 at 11:29 AM, Chris Cormack <chris@bigballofwax.co.nz> wrote:

I agree with Chris. I don't think barcodes have ever shown on the OPAC detail page.
The MARC framework is set to display barcodes (952p) in the OPAC. But they don't appear anywhere.
The options for hiding and showing data in the OPAC based on the "hidden" setting in the MARC framework is limited to the MARC view in the OPAC, and even then I don't think it applies to item information. Sorry, I know that is not made clear by the help file.

Sounds like a job for shelving locations? -- Owen -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org
I don't know where he was seeing them, then. It doesn't display in the MARC view either. Some of the records have the number in an ownership history note. But that only applies to special collections. Sorry to raise a red herring if it never was displayed. . . Elaine On Tue, May 31, 2011 at 1:38 PM, Owen Leonard <oleonard@myacpl.org> wrote:

It should. This is a known bug for which a patch has been submitted. Hopefully it will make it into the next update. -- Owen -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org
