It's a Debian package, but AFAIK it should work fine with Ubuntu, and besides being easy, the end result is better than most could get doing it from source. See the wiki at koha-community.org for initial setup of your package management configuration. Once you've got hooked up to the repository, download the package and look at the README.debian file.

You might find that there are some dependencies that aren't in Ubuntu, although I haven't tested it. If this is the case, you can probably just steal them from Debian anyway. -- Robin Sheat Catalyst IT Ltd. ✆ +64 4 803 2204 GPG: 5957 6D23 8B16 EFAB FEF8 7175 14D3 6485 A99C EB6D

there are instructions on the wiki for 10.04. http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Lucid_using_Koha_packages The bit will that will change is the dependencies section. When the 10.04 document was written, everything that was needed was packaged, but needed to be fetched manually. I'd expect that there might be a few less things to fetch. To check, get to the end of Sources, and then try install. Whatever else is left, just gather up from your local ubuntu mirror using wget then install. For some dependencies there are a couple of layers of depends to work back through, hence the note about "must be done in this order". Once you're done, please write it up and add it to the wiki. -ramon.

The Ubuntu repositories are extensive; when we installed Koha (and upgrades) I can't remember off-hand anything that Ubuntu (10.10) was unable to locate. Paul Tired old sys-admin

We used Koha Live CD by Mizstik http://kohalivecd.mizstik.com/ He now has release 8 but we used release 7 in mid January which came with Ubuntu 10.10 and all dependencies. We are newbies and it was a dream, we installed on a new empty machine and maybe 15 minutes later everything was installed (it's done automatically, no dependencies to get) and then as soon as we exported and imported our SQL tables from our old setup we were ready to go. He provides great tech support...just post to his discussion group and he gets right back. The only problem we had was getting automatic email notices to work. If you download and burn the CD you can also run from the CD and check it out before you install.
