[Koha] Importing records into Koha - smaller batches per year of catalogization?

Hello,
I already did, just so I have all the records split by the year in which they were cataloged. It’s also going to make it easier for me to catch any errors if I’m not looking at a huge list.
It’s good to hear 10k records isn’t an issue though. I expect to cross that mark this year, and aim at cataloging about a thousand books per year.

Hi
You don't need to sort your records for importing. I usually only split it by a number of record blocks. I use 10K records at once for easy handle and control, but it is possible to do more at a time. I might depend on the hardware you have your koha installation on.

I have finally received the export from our developers; they have provided me with an .xls file which I'll need to prepare for MarcEdit (check for errors and consistency such as uniform names of publishers, authors, duplicate or skipped inventory numbers etc.). There's a total of 9326 copies, so I was wondering if the best way to import the records would be to break up the file into several smaller ones, separated by the year in which they were cataloged?
I could sort them by inventory number; the format we used for them is B0001/20## for books. I currently have the barcode in Koha set to <year>-0001 format (though I'm wondering whether it's better to use the EAN barcode format. Are there any preferences re: barcodes here in the list?
Finally, when it comes to the mapping of the fields we had in our system and what's available in Koha, our fields were the following:

I will need to break up some of them (in our catalog all authors were in the same field, and the uncontrolled subject headings will need to be separated into rows. This will be a problem for this example and some others since there is no delimiter; everything is in one field in the export even though they were entered with a carriage return in the field. For others there are variations depending on where they were copied from (semicolons, double hyphens, periods):

I'm also going to have a problem with exported UDC, because while it appeared correctly in the frontend, it was handled within brackets in the backend, which is what's used for auxiliaries. How would I go about converting this:
(616-006) Tumours. Neoplasms. Blastomata. Choristomata. Hamartomata. Oncology.; ((091)) Presentation in chronological, historical form.
Historical presentation in the strict sense;
into:

Plus I would actually need to import only the numbers, and not the descriptions, so (616-006) and ((091)) converted to 616-006 and (091) and imported into their respective fields 080$a and 080$x.
...that's a lot of questions; I hope I'll get some pointers :)
