I found the following on Bugzilla. This bug was described and patched,
by one person with no apparent comment from anyone else. I am just
wondering whether this will be acceptable to US and UK libraries?

Bug 2770 -
At the moment when you renew a document the date_due calculated is now+loanlength,
but it's a bad thing, It should be date_due+loanlength.

We disagree - we expect that whenever you renew an item, the due
date will be calculated from the date when the renewal is done,
regardless of the existing due date.
This patch will add a whole new loan period calculated from the
existing due date - so if you renew an item long before it is due back
you could double the loan period.

I believe that the existing function to set a specific due date at
checkout works well for people who need an extended due date, and for
renewals in general we would prefer to calculate from the day the
renewal is done.
